Open Competition 29th Jan 2025

Here are two images, my thoughts and reasons during their processes.

This shot was captured during the boring return voyage from Brittany. I usually amble around the decks, camera in hand looking for the different. Some others have appeared on the Club's Flickr and in previous competitions, but my preferences of image subject does not always align with judge's. I believe Howard has recently made the same point.

This one would probably be judged 'TOO BUSY'- yes that was the point-hence the title. The gentleman (centre) was returning to their open deck table (bottom right) from the bar. The sea to the right provides the maritime context. I do like stairs, steps and railings, a regular posting of mine on Flickr group 'straight lines curves and shadows'.

This image was captured in Brittany during a holiday.

It was during a stroll around back streets of Audierne.

The use of granite for the major construction, which we are very familiar with in the South West.

The red paintwork has been saturated in the interest of impact, the remainder being desaturated for contrast. The red 'stroke Line' picks out inobtrusively the paintwork. Balance and modelling of the picture were acheived in 'Camera Raw Filter' in Photoshop.

Beyond a 'Holiday Snapshot', the image provided me with an interesting image and yet another mini challenge to post edit the image and make it work.

Thanks Max

I would just say that it is only 'beyond acceptable limits' because of the Judges preconceptions, Custom-and-Practice and conservatism!

I try to expose Members to a wider scope but not all use the avenues open to them.

Perhaps the TPC Meetings should push Open Shutter, The Forum and TPC Flickr more openly from time to time. I will pen a note to be sent out to all members by the Secretary.
