October 2nd open competition 2

This is the second parallel image chosen to illustrate differing aspects.

This is the second parallel image chosen to illustrate differing aspects.

I have in the past entered competitions "tongue-in-cheek" because I do not seek affirmation by others, and only to show a somewhat different approach to photography at times. I have therefore decided to not enter competitions this year. Additionally I like to explain why I captured the image and how I edited it and what may have transpired during post processing.

I will post on the various outlets available to Members to illustrate these points.

Whilst not necessarily the "cup of tea" to all Members, there may well be underlying "broader aspects" which may be of use or interest.

This was captured in, Brittany in May 2024.

Trying to be sympathetic to environmental anomalies (Brittany Ferry and driving our car!) the local sand dune and shoreline chestnut palings protection presented a symbolic opportunity.

Taken on my travel-light Olympus M5 and 14-150 lens, jpeg (grainy B&W preset to emphasize the fence structure and stressed situation) and RAW. Several shots were taken this one zoom and angle adjusted to encompass the eroding dunes and the deteriorating profile of the palings hopefully only temporarily losing the battle!

The image was tweaked for contrast, saturation and clarity in "filter""camera raw filter". Further zonally refined in Photoshop to suit the dramatic subject. Unnecessary distractions "removed"and "healed"

Whilst this image serves as a reminder of a great holiday, the atmospheric qualities of monochrome adds to the message and very suitable for structures. I have been concentrating with this in-camera preset to determine suitable subjects and post editing methods. The overall profile was recognised at capture but the repositioned fencing with the break and detached paling only came to notice during post editing.

I hope this explanation is of interest and perhaps use to some of our Membership.
